Mystery of the Day #1425
Phrases like this are scattered throughout Berkeley, stretching from downtown to Indian Rock. Years ago I hoped to find and catalogue them all, assembling the clues to unravel whatever mystery was suspended between them. Most of these words have faded or been washed away, or the sidewalk upon which they were written was completely removed. A few still remain, though, and it’s always a surprise to come across them.
So many of these are just the perfect combination of two or three words, hinting at a story – albeit a peculiar one – much bigger than you can see. Rat Patrol, Thor In Essence, Star Faded, Fourth Wife Of Cain…
There must be someone who’s solved the mystery.
The Pizza Police will fine you for cutting your slices crooked, for not evenly distributing the toppings, or for letting the cheese slide off in the box. They’re here for your protection, of course, to make sure you have a safe and pleasant pizza experience, but it does leave you wanting a little more freedom in your meals.
