Swing of the Day #1655

It’s been too long since I’ve gone out wandering with friends. Winter kept us sequestered indoors and life has been busy, but today we finally escaped and went gallivanting along the railroad tracks. Eventually we reached Aquatic Park, which I haven’t visited in a few years now. In high school I once went on a midnight walk there with Emily, Kate, and Mackenzie, and something about the journey made it feel quiet and mythic. Returning with new friends today gave an odd twist of nostalgia.

We were lucky enough to find the playground empty, a wonderful wooden fortress for us to explore and frolic through, and once we reached the swingset everyone focused their efforts into launching themselves over the woodchip field.

Kendra found several four-leaf clovers and a discarded bit of train platform, and I flattened a penny under the weight of an oncoming train. You couldn’t hope for better mementos of the day.
