Tube of the Day #1690

Playgrounds can fill with such lovely ominous light in the evening, but no one is there to admire it. I came here tonight to get a clearer view of the clouds, but found the perspective lacking; this sight was waiting for me when I turned.

Graffiti makes a point of looking ragged and dangerous, but whoever wrote it here had to look positively silly, lying halfway up the slide with their legs dangling out. There are more impressive sites to haunt; perhaps the taggers here just intend to indoctrinate children as they make their way down the chute.

  1. I’m not sure I agree with your conjecture that graffiti looks ragged and dangerous. It’s true that it is associated with gangs, but it also associated with artists who believe it is beautiful- a calligraphy for urban artists who just want to leave some mark of their existence on the world. For all you know the slide may have sentimental value for the graffiti artist. Maybe they had spent their time there in happier days. Maybe their silly positioning was an intentional reenactment.
