Karate Chop of the Day #1747

Mitch was definitively the winner of this year’s Slaughtermelon. Clad in traditional melon-colors – pink, red, green and a white kerchief – he took to the melon-cleaving with gusto, and managed to claim the final blow on both watermelons today. The first resisted strikes from several assailants, splitting on Mitch’s second turn; later in the evening, once he’d mastered the technique, Mitch sliced apart this second watermelon in one spectacular chop. Kendra, Jacob and the rest of us were in awe a moment later, but at this instant there was nothing but the action; we needed some time to process the spectacle.

We saw no fireworks from Jacob’s backyard, but there was no need. Traditions you make yourself are more fun, anyway.

count every beautiful thing we can see
