Constant of the Day #1749

Sibling warfare seems to never come to an end. Brian and his sister Jessica battled tonight over control of their respective gadgets, no doubt mirroring dozens of such spats from throughout their childhood. Being reasonable adults now, they can squabble like this with no ill will; the struggle here is something like an homage to their time growing together, and shows how well they get along.

What I really like about this is that, in any other context, these two would be perfectly calm, mild-mannered folk; siblings bring out a part of them that you never see otherwise. Myles and Milena are the same – typically quiet, gentle, amiable people, they always end up screaming and rassling when they spend time together. When you grow up with someone, they’re forever a link to childhood and all of its squabbles, it seems.

My sister and I don’t have this same sort of relationship. Perhaps it’s a matter of age gap – there’s something very special about growing up alongside a person, and a few years’ distance might flatten out any rivalries that would otherwise build up.

I’m really fond of people. Tonight was a good night.
