Culvert of the Day #1785

Summer has let the creeks here run shallow, so we took the opportunity to explore the culvert near Leyla’s parents’ home. We entered completely unprepared, and as the tunnel curved and the daylight faded, there was nothing to light our way but my camera’s flickering autofocus flashes. The walls were coated with graffiti, haunting in the damp dark, and every sound we made echoed forward along the concrete tunnels. At the end of the culvert, just before reentering daylight, Mitch leaned his hand against the wall and discovered an enormous patch of spindly spiders – harmless and sedate, but rather startling to meet in such a locale.

Beyond were ropes and vines to swing on and rocks to stack – a successful creek trek by any measure.

let it go
