Cheer of the Day #1792

Mario Kart fiddle’s with a player’s emotions more than most games. The merciless strike of a blue shell can send the racer leader back into last place, while a well-timed starman can deliver a sudden come-from-behind victory; at any given moment it’s anyone’s game, and the race is never over until the very end.

It’s almost more fun watching people react to the game than it is to actually play it. In the span of thirty seconds the audience might be thrown through a menagerie of emotions, biting their nails as a red shell rolls near, cringing as the ground collapses beneath Koopa’s kart, throwing their arms in the air when first place is claimed just inches from the finish line.

Games are fantastic for a lot of reasons, but it’s great when they tie everyone together like this. There’s nothing like a shared cheer at a sudden victory.
