The Transfiguration

Decay of the Day #1793

with one comment

We ought to hold a holiday in these colors, clothing ourselves in silver and brown, and celebrate the art of aging elegantly. These leaves are huddled by the remains of a cleared-away bush, and may not be replaced by new green next Spring, but they’re ending their existence here with a song.

The veins in these leaves are so dry and sharp, like they’ve been turned to bone and are patiently awaiting the transition to fossil, eager to see what the world is like when they’re unearthed by paleontologists in ten million years.

it’s been declawed
