Down of the Day #1806

The road was strewn with drifts of soft white down today, splayed over shrubs and caught in spider silk, piled by the curb, whirling faintly as small dust devils wandered through. The little pockets of feathered winter made it seems as though some catastrophe had occurred – surely this could only be the result of some grisly battle between geese who, after a long struggle, tumbled naked down the storm drain, leaving their dignity scattered across an entire city block.

There is, of course, a simpler and more mundane explanation, but with these harmless mysteries, it may be better to go with what you want to believe rather than the truth.

I’ve just never been tested
