Home of the Day #1808

Since moving out of the campus apartment at Santa Cruz, I’ve been much more aware of the houses I pass everywhere, and often wonder what it’s like to live there: small apartments with dust in the corners and faint light from North-facing windows; little cottages with splintered fences and trinket-covered porches; monstrous, three-story houses with tower rooms you can see straight through from the street; heartbroken houses with cages covering their windows and front doors, no longer able to trust the neighborhood; perfectly manicured houses so clean that no one could possibly live there. Each place certainly conveys a different feeling to me than to its owner; as a house becomes a home, it transforms to the eye in the same way a stranger does as she becomes a friend.

I miss sharing a house with friends in Santa Cruz. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a home with friends again soon.
