Maker of the Day #1855

The Maker’s Faire is rife with craft and creativity, a requisite festival for anyone who likes to create anything – foods, textiles, sculpture or robots. I wandered around the fair with Laurel, Mitch and Kendra, seeing the various marvels they had to offer: goats and chickens and bunnies with perpetually wiggling noses; a tiny city made of tape; a twelve-legged tank that walked with a slow arachnoid grace; a singing tesla coil whose operator invited me to make a small chain of electric handholds; towers that spouted fire for the fun of it; chimera stuffed animals, such as Babar the elephant-seal; delicious cookies baked in a solar oven.

Laurel herself is a maker of many things – robots and outfits and illustrations – and she and my other companions fit right in with the Maker talent. Here Laurel is using her technomage powers to summon a Maker ghost, a spirit known to inspire craftspeople across the world.

It’s been a good weekend.

rejoice despite the fact this world will tear you to shreds
