Line of the Day #1889

Sunlight has been scarce, but we had a chance to take Pearce’s slackline out for a while today in the conflicted autumn weather. Wind rattled the line while we took careful steps across, and we were alternately chilled by the breeze and toasted by the sun.

Eventually Paul joined us as well, bearing J.D. Salinger’s Nine Stories in hand, and we talked briefly about the tragedy of having murderers credit their motivation to your own work. A dark notion, to be sure, but it gave a counterweight to the morning – something to balance against the nimble steps we had to take on the line.

Winter’s approach robs us of afternoons like this, but we can still grab them in the morning if we’re quick.

while I stare at you
