Headstone of the Day #1934

I walked along MacArthur at a brisk pace this morning, rushing to make an appointment for new eyes. I stopped for only a moment to take a quick snapshot of this worn-away sign like a neglected headstone, the name and epitaph almost decayed beyond legibility. With rusted sign, faded awning and dusty windows, the place had such a heavy air of defeat, weary and hopeless. The feeling was painted all along that street in so many old motels; it felt like the neighborhood was full of people who had wanted their lives to be something more.

The optometrist was soft-spoken and kindly, the picture of serenity.

  1. “Men’s and Boy’s Haircuts $1.50” (although I’m not sure about the apostrophes).
