Hint of the Day #1964

Though our state’s been fearfully dry this winter, it has still rained occasionally, briefly, in the last few weeks. Every time, though, I’ve missed the rain itself, catching only hints of it – the distinct susurrus of cars rolling down wet roads, the silver sheen and dark shadows painted on the streets, the air so heavy and cold, the trees and shrubs still full of gloom. It’s a bit like missing a holiday and finding the decorations still left up, sagging and flimsy, or perhaps like the mess after a party.

We’re due for more rain – I’ll be glad to wade through it.
