Cake of the Day #1986

Our Berkeley friends are so scattered, but Clara pulled together a handful of us – Tristan, Faye, Myles and Emily – to celebrate her 29th birthday tonight. It was a quiet sort of party, as we’re all quiet people, with an excess of sweets and a long session of Taboo. We talked about a number of things: how France is very protective of their language; what shaving is like and why people do it; gender constructs and transgender incentives; whether birds are dinosaurs; thoughtful books, good romp-ish books and needlessly unpleasant books.

These conversations are good, but I see these people so rarely, and somehow I always miss out on learning what’s happening in their lives. They’re all brilliant, and I hope they’re doing well – and I hope Clara enjoyed her birthday party.
