Flight of the Day #2014

Flights put an odd mental distance between morning and evening, even if they’re only an hour long. I woke up 500 miles away, and the day continued on its own path when we landed; I might as well have been in San Diego a week ago.

We both fell asleep on the flight. I even drifted off as the engines were just firing, and missed seeing the world shrink away beneath us – something I usually look forward to. I woke up toward the end of the flight and watched as we sank below the patchy clouds, and all the wrinkled mountains below were cloaked in patches of sun and shadow.

Today was Mitch’s birthday, but we missed out on his company. We’ll have to make up for that soon.

they mean so much to me
