Daisies of the Day #2017

Aftermath of the Day #2017

From the insulated confines of the lab this afternoon I heard a single, massive rumble of thunder. We have no windows to allow us the weather’s tones, so that colorless boom could have been anything – an explosion, a crashing truck, a highly localized earthquake, perhaps. At lunch I sat by the lounge window, and between bites and pages I could look out to see a soft rain and the umbrellas below.

At six o’clock, heading out for home, I readied my umbrella for the rain and wind, but when I stepped outside the world was bright, pierced through by the sun. It still felt cold and crisp like rain, but so much sharper.

I passed these daisies on the concrete, all worn out from the storm, too tired to enjoy the sun but so insistent on trying. It should rain tomorrow, but they’ll get their real spring soon.
