Fingers of the Day #2046

Today was a lot of small accomplishments, little bits of maintenance and small goals that I finally worked on. I went out late in the morning to attend to things downtown, stopping occasionally to admire things.

These flowers were a slightly eerie sight, like long bony fingers pulling a luminous ribcage out of a portal from somewhere else. All the strange shapes I’ve seen lately have given plants another layer of animacy; more than ever they seem like slow-moving creatures rather than static structures. This both makes them seem more familiar – fellow travelers on the path of life, one might say – and more alien, because they act and move so very differently than I do.

Whatever this plant is, it and I were both able to enjoy the sun today, and I came home with summery fruits in tow.

it’s in your afterlife
