Traveler of the Day #2526

Lunch again with John today. We met this time by the unicorn fountain, where John often ate lunch while we were at App Academy. Everything here is marbled, water falls from the skylights above and the air is thick with the conversation of businesspeople, and John found it a good place to sit and people watch while his brain cooled off from the intensive coding we were pressed to accomplish.

In a few weeks John may start somewhere new, and he talked about how the week vacation between gigs might give him an opportunity to go to Costa Rica. He’s never been there before, and there’s no special incentive for it besides its innate natural; it’s just a place that would be nice to go.

John’s done a lot of traveling in the past, and it always strikes me how easy it is for him to go wandering abroad. It occurred to me that I’m just as capable now of taking trips like that, and I certainly should. My wandering friend here agreed – there’s a lot to gain from seeing the rest of the world, and getting to know people who live entirely different lives, immersed in different languages.

It’s hard to imagine doing that alone, but I think it would be good for me to try it someday.
