Exit of the Day #2340

In the few minutes before the lights went out and our film started, I decided to leave my seat and try to photograph the theater’s ornate emergency exit. Laurel had never been to the California before, and was charmed by its appearance: the curtains covering the screen, the old seats with no sign of modern cup holders, the walls earnestly decorated, as if they had been built by a calligrapher. To get a direct angle, I had to stand on the waist-high wall separating the entry path from the lower seats, taking a somewhat precarious position in front of the dozen or so strangers who had also come for the show.

It was a lovely movie, and Laurel was so pretty as we took the train to get there.
