Artery of the Day #2343

I sometimes find myself mesmerized by construction, drawn by the way it takes my usual day-to-day landscape and literally turns it inside out. They’ve been doing some unknown sort of work here, and this morning they’d installed this massive tube, functioning perhaps like a temporary synthetic artery during a coronary bypass operation. It made me more aware of the connective tissues underground that make the city function, and suddenly San Francisco was a massive creature upon whose back I stood, all its vital humors flowing beneath my feet.

The book I’m reading now is about a hospital – I think it has put a little bit of a medical twist on how I think about things.
