Cave of the Day #2479

The coronary bypass performed on the city a few months ago is just about done, but a few lengths of arterial tubing still rest in the street. Planting them in the earth was a colossal task, as will be carting them away. In the process, it seems, we lost one hapless worker: digested completely, absorbed into the walls, all that remains of him is his lucky helmet.

Because cities are Creatures of the Abstract, digested souls are assimilated into the city, and become a part of the collective consciousness. Don’t feel too bad about this lost worker; he’ll still be here for decades, perhaps centuries, to come, a part of every conversation, a chord in every busker’s song.
