Tradition of the Day #2582

This is the first time we’ve carved pumpkins with Alina and Bob, but Laurel said – before we’d even picked out the pumpkins – that she wanted it to become a tradition. Four work of art now sit on our kitchen table, staring out the window, so I think we are off to a fine start.

I have carved my fair share of pumpkins in the past, but I think I was always reluctant to commit to the whole messy process of cutting open and gutting the fruit. Those reservations seem to have melted away, and after some deliberation over what my pumpkin’s face should be, I was able to carve it into a proper little monster.

We’ve had pumpkin pie and pumpkin ice cream and pumpkin candles here for a few weeks now, but tonight the apartment smells like actual pumpkin, and it’s lovely.
