The move

Thanksgiving seems like a good post to end it on, so that will be the last day I put here on WordPress. I’ve built myself a new home for my photo-a-day project: you can check it out at http://kevinvognar.com/days. If you’d like to keep following along day by day, I’ve also made an RSS feed, so feel free to plug it into Feedly or whatever feed reader you use: http://kevinvognar.com/feed/?format=rss

I know I’ll probably be losing most of my readers by moving, but WordPress doesn’t work exactly how I’d like it to for this project; I’ve wanted to move to something else for a long time.

Thanks for following along this far. Take care of yourself, ok?

Nest of the Day #2616

Day_2616

One more day of recovery. Laurel’s was more adventurous; she left early this morning for a job interview (which went well, but we’re waiting on a decision) and went out this evening for an R-themed costume party. After she spent some time mulling over options to no avail, I suggested she use the felt drops that Anna made me so she could go as a raincloud. These safety pins fastened the rain to her arms, though I failed to capture the costume in all its majesty.

I have had enough of all this nothing-doing. Tomorrow, I hope, I’ll be much better.

Turtle of the Day #2600

My photos have been very ho-hum lately, but in this case I think I can take it as a sign that I’ve been busy, rather than uninspired or otherwise dreary-feeling. The sea turtle rests atop a poetry book beside my bed, and someday perhaps I’ll read to him.

I’m working on two separate projects at once, spending time with Laurel, exercising somewhat proper and getting along at work. Things are going pretty well.

I think I am still getting to realize what it means that Laurel and I are living together. I get to go to sleep beside her every night, and that will continue indefinitely – what a marvelous thing that is.

Rain of the Day #2597

Mom is having trouble with work, and looking to start an independent massage business, so I came by to try to help with some of the web issues she was dealing with. I wasn’t very useful – starting one of these businesses seems to be pretty complicated.

The rain surprised me while I was there, so I had to bike home through freshly slicked streets. My black coat glimmered as the rain met it, and my front tire kept sprouting sprigs of water whenever I crossed a puddle.

I always like the rain when I get to appreciate it from inside the shelter of my home – it’s only fair that I deal with it in person now and then.

Musketeers of the Day #2586

Laurel was pretty excited to give these three today’s title, so I couldn’t ignore it.

I take photos now and then to document the games or books or other media that flavor my time. Whether it’s Yoshi’s Wooly World or 1984, it provides some mental backdrop for my day-to-day life, a world for me to live in when I’m not doing whatever life demands of me.

This one is mellow and cheerful and Laurel and I get to play it together, running through adorable knitted landscapes, unraveling baddies like spools of spaghetti. There’s just a few spare hours each night for us to do what we will – this will be a nice way to spend it for a while.

Run of the Day #2583

I’ve been a tangle of nerves for much of today, worrying too much about weird social circle things and where-life-is-going. Laurel’s made me feel much better; I’m grateful to have her here with me.

With some of those knots in my stomach, I tried going for a run at the gym. I am not a runner, and this becomes apparent as soon as I try to push myself on the treadmill. Nothing else at the gym saps all my strength like running does – which means, of course, that I ought to do it more. Maybe someday I will be strong and fast and perfectly flexible. The trick is reaching that point while maintaining all the other parts of life I love.

Ghosts of the Day #2579

More spooky bits have materialized in our home: chocolate eyeballs, piles of spiders, bats to dangle from the ceiling, two different pillows to stare at you from the corners of the sofa. Some are from a care package from Laurel’s parents, and some Laurel picked out herself. I’m not sure which this blanket falls under, but it has what might be an accidental optical illusion. The ghosts are meant to be cute, smiling with monochrome blush. Seen from the other side, though, the brain still parses them as faces – but this time they are crying, their eyes hollow pits dripping dark tears.

Both of these faces are easy to see; with a little effort, you can turn them into creepier four-eyed ghosts, or make the mouth into a nose, but other interpretations come much more easily. Laurel prefers the happy faces, of course – who wants an afterlife filled with tears and monsters?
